Some time your cat may have medical issues so that it don’t like to be held . They may have recent surgery , they may have disease like joint disease so, when you picked them it may hurt them so they start hisses and began to escape from you . This condition can turn your loving feline friend into unloving feline friend when this situation occur you should visit your veterinary doctor give them proper medications according to prescription. Give them a time to be treated and feeling calm . Some time it’s happen then when your cat is cured they still dislike to be held because the cat associated this behaviour with the sensation of pain . Feeling disrespected

Some times when you picked up your cat they considered you as predators as it is the natural instinct of the cat  so the cat begin to escape and run away from you may be they have different point of you about being showing affection behaviour and your this behaviour don’t match to their natural instinct so they tries to escape from your lap and hands .

You don’t hold your cat properly

One of the biggest reason your cat don’t like to be held  by you is that you can’t hold your cat properly it may develop  the sense of pulling , hurting or gripping in them .
